My son is a junior magician and loves all things magic; his favorite movies are all about using magic…believing in yourself enough to harness your power and transform something (in a mega fantastic way). One recent weekend, I had the pleasure of viewing a few of my son’s favorite movies with him. Movies I wouldn’t normally choose to see…fantastical productions. Per my son’s request, I opened my heart to new and different, and in the process of opening my heart, I was touched in a profound way. In order to perform such *magic* the characters had to believe that they could…regardless of the movie, the special effects were only possible if they were based in this belief. Much of each movie had to do with the characters developing their confidence, their ability, their faith…

So, of course, I began to think…in society today there is much talk about transformation–transforming your character, your inner self, your physical body, your home, your wardrobe…your (insert word here)…

There are many techniques, much advice, but the bottom line is: you not only have to believe in magic; you have to believe you have the power to manifest with it…You have to not only believe in the power of transformation, but believe this power is available to you, and that you are worthy of the magical results.

Learning To Embrace Fear Positively

“To allow for transformation, is to be completely comfortable with change”.

Have you thought that through within your own life?

Many people are afraid of change. We all have our own examples of how fear can be such a huge, impenetrable barrier. Fear…some would rather bury it, walk around it, build bridges over it, cover it with medication or another substance, stay busy to deny it, ignore it, avoid it by staying within a box…rather than name it, or even embrace it joyfully.

Today I’m going to ask you to be open to the idea of embracing fear. I say embrace fear…embrace it lovingly, gratefully, joyfully…for when you embrace fear, you are disavowing it of its Power…you are dissolving it, bit by bit, until one day that big, impenetrable barrier of Fear no longer exists. In its place is the change that your heart has been longing for.

The essential key to dealing with fear is to embrace it. Fear is not used to being embraced. Fear has no idea what to do when it presents itself and you give praise for it. Try this next time fear trickles in – please try it right now before you read any farther…

Think of something you are afraid of and give praise for that fear…watch its power dwindle even in this very moment. For this moment, let’s use the example of feeling stuck in a job position that is less than desirable to you — fear keeps you there.

The moment you identify that fear say: “Thank you Fear for being present. My heart is happy to see you here because now I Know this is a golden opportunity for me to open my heart farther to grow. *Thank you Fear*“.

Fear has lost some of its Power already, and the only thing you needed to invest was the energy to give praise…

Being Fully Present With Our Fear

After you’ve given praise for fear, think of something good to allow you to take a step with it. I think embracing fear is like an intimate slow dance:

First you acknowledge fear… “Hi Fear, I see you, thank you for being present”… you don’t have to know what to “do with it”, how to move through it, or do anything but acknowledge its presence, and take a step with it. And then allow gratitude for that step to fill your heart.

Next, while your heart is full of gratitude and your energy is soaring, invite fear in. You “hold hands with fear”“Hi Fear, I see you are still here. Mmm, this is lovely music, on such a beautiful night my heart is so happy, let’s dance”. Can you imagine how Fear feels? After a lifetime of being ignored, buried, squashed, to be called out to enjoy a lovely dance, a dance in Love and Light.

See, as you embrace fear, you’ve begun to disarm it. Let’s stick with the above example of feeling stuck in your job. As you begin to hold hands with fear, imagine what would happen if you allowed it in for a bit…

As you begin to turn off your mind and experience with your heart… “Well, Fear… as long as my energy is soaring, the music is lovely, the night is beautiful let’s sway together”… At this moment you begin to consider an option that you have previously been afraid of…perhaps you create your resume and begin viewing job openings, perhaps you draft your resignation notice…

The power of fear is dissolving and soon, with each step, soon you are dancing with fear…embracing it – willingly joyfully, and it has lost its power.

Empowerment Through Our Personal Dance with Fear

I would imagine as you read through the above, you didn’t feel panic or worry. Even as you read the words, your mind, your heart was briefly thinking about embracing fear…you have already made the first step!

In the above — as in life — fear lost its power because you were able to turn off your mind…to turn off the what if’s, the should’s, could’s, not enough, way too much…the chatter…

As you turned off your mind, you let your senses lead, enjoying the moments, growing the good of the moments, and soon, soon as you slow dance with fear… Soon you are leading, and as the music winds down, you find yourself twirling fear one last time, then dipping fear…and then… Releasing Fear!Thank you for the dance…it was extraordinary…please find your way out…

You find you are on the other side, giving praise for the entire experience…your heart soaring, your spirit lively, your senses delighted by it all…

Embracing fear is that easy. Slow, confident, joy filled steps forward together, until one day you turn to find fear is gone, released into the ethers as your spirit soars far past the place you could imagine it…
